Cal Poly Debate Team Garners More Success at Championship Tournament Feb. 21

Cal Poly’s Debate Team attended the Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association’s Spring Championship Tournament at Moorpark College on Feb. 21. Debaters Brandon Bartlett (English) and Euni Kim (Communication Studies), both in their first year at Cal Poly, placed third at the tournament after arguing the merits of nuclear weapons. Both students were honored among the attendees from colleges and universities across Southern California and Arizona.
Cal Poly Debate Team: Semifinalists at San Diego Invitational Tournament

The Cal Poly Debate Team became the only California school to advance beyond the preliminary rounds of the Sunset Cliffs Classic Forensics Tournament, which took place on Feb. 7-8, at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. Drawing competitors from across the western United States, the tournament hosted several top schools, along with other state institutions such as UCLA, Pepperdine University and Claremont McKenna College.
Cal Poly Debate Team Members Finish in Final Round of UC Davis Tournament

Cal Poly Debate Team members Minnal Kunnan (computer science) and Neeckaun Irani (political science) were finalists at the UC Davis Intervarsity Debate Tournament, which took place Nov. 8-10. Teams from around the Western United States debated a comprehensive range of topics including international relations, social justice, environmental policy, domestic policy, economics, and philosophy. After seven rounds of competition, Cal Poly emerged as the only public university to advance to the final round. Finalists Kunnan and Irani argued that American national security necessitates a reduction of privacy for both American and foreign citizens.

Bernard Duffy, Communication Studies Professor and Dept. Chair, Selected For Distinguished Scholar Award

Communication Studies Professor and Department Chair, Bernard K. Duffy, is one of two Cal Poly Professors selected by the Academic Senate to receive the 2013 Distinguished Scholarship Award. Duffy, along with Professor Lanny Griffin (Biomedical & General Engineering) will be honored during Fall Quarter 2013.
Raymond Zeuschner Retires

Spring Dean's List Honors
Thirty-eight Communication Studies majors received Dean's List honors for Spring Quarter. The mean grade point average for the students was 3.74, including seven students with a 4.0.
