Notes

Dr. Nancie J. Hudson joined the Communication Studies faculty in 2017.  A former professional writer who has experience in journalism and public relations, she discovered the joy of teaching in 2009 when she volunteered to teach free “How to Write an Effective Cover Letter” workshops at a career center to help unemployed women find jobs.  During the past seven years, she taught public speaking and interpersonal communication courses at the University of South Florida in Tampa and writing and rhetoric at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  Dr. Hudson uses a variety of research methods to study social identity, conflict management and social support in dyadic and group face-to-face and technology-mediated communication.  Her work has been published in the Journal of Family Communication, the Journal of Loss and Trauma, and Text & Talk: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Language, Discourse & Communication Studies.  In addition, she has presented her research at numerous conferences including the International Communication Association, National Communication Association and Southern States Communication Association.  At the University of South Florida, Dr. Hudson received the Arthur P. Bochner Award for Outstanding Achievement in Doctoral Studies and the Provost’s Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Teaching Assistant.
