Notes

David A. Askay joined the Communication Studies faculty in 2013.  In addition to teaching courses in small group communication and business communication at UNC Charlotte, he also taught English in Japan before entering graduate school. At Cal Poly, he teaches courses on teamwork, organizational communication, and innovation.  His research investigates issues ranging from artificial intelligence, organizational identity, creativity, voice, and technological design. His research can be found in top communication and interdisciplinary journals including Management Communication QuarterlyNew Media and Society, Business Horizons, and California Management Review. In addition, he presents at conferences including NCA, iConference, Internet Research, Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), and the Academy of Management. He is also a co-author of the text Group Dynamics for Teams. In 2012, he was recognized with the Donald P. Cushman Memorial Award for the top-ranked student-authored paper at the National Communication Association Annual Meeting.  Dr. Askay also received the Graduate Dean’s Excellence in Teaching Award for Top Graduate Teaching Assistant at UNC Charlotte in 2012. In 2022, he was awarded the Douglas L. Epperson Innovation Award by the College of Liberal Arts.
