Notes

Dr. Salwa Kazi (they/them/theirs) joined the Communication Studies department in 2026. Their research engages rhetoric as world-making and world-ending; understanding it to be inseparable from global forces of power.

Dr. Kazi's current book project interrogates the rhetorical deployments of brahminism (caste-based social hierarchization) and anti-Blackness that constitute public technologies of enslavement in 18th and 19th century western India. Dr. Kazi's work has been published in the Quarterly Journal of Speech, and the Journal of International and Intercultural Studies.
