Diversity and Inclusivity Workshops Feature Coms Faculty Members
As part of the university’s continuous commitment to diversity and inclusion, the third Inclusion Starts with Me Teach-In is scheduled for Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. This event is open to the campus community and will feature several Cal Poly educators. The Inclusion Starts with Me Teach In is a partnership with the College of Liberal Arts, the Office of University Diversity & Inclusion (OUDI), and Academic Affairs.
Several Communication Studies faculty are scheduled to present as guest speakers hosting a variety of different diversity and inclusivity workshops. For more information, visit Teach In.
Megan Lambertz-Berndt is co-presenting with Joan Meyers (Social Sciences) in a workshop titled Working Toward Allyship from 12-2 p.m. (Bldg. 21, Rm. 236).
Lisa Kawamura is co-presenting with Jennifer Teramoto Pedrotti (CLA Associate Dean for Diversity & Curriculum), Grace Yeh (Ethnic Studies), Roberta Wolfson (English), and Nisa Morey (Chemistry) in a workshop titled Crazy Rich Asians Discussion: Asian American Representation in Film and Popular Culture from 1-2pm (ATL, Bldg. 7).
Emily Ryalls is co-presenting with Megan Lambertz-Berndt in a workshop titled Privilege Museum from 2-4pm (Bldg. 2, Rm. 113).
Andrea Terry is co-presenting with Kati Fosselius (Food Science & Nutrition) in a workshop titled Does Size Really Matter? Debilitating Discourses of Size and Health from 4-5pm (Bldg. 38, Rm. 114).
Emily Ryalls is co presenting with Farah Basel Al-Nakib (History), Jay Bettergarcia (Psychology & Child Development), Joan Meyers (Social Sciences), Jennifer Teramoto Pedrotti (CLA Associate Dean for Diversity & Curriculum), Amber Williams (Psychology & Child Development), and Roberta Wolfson (English) in a workshop titled Cluster Hiring and Organizational Diversity: A Report from the First Year from 4-5pm (Bldg. 21, Rm. 238).
Following the day’s workshops, a special event titled CLA Speaks: From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation takes place with guest speaker Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor (Asst. Professor in the African American Studies Department at Princeton University) from 6:10-7:45 p.m. (Miossi Hall, Performing Arts Center). For more information, visit CLA Speaks.
