Debate Team Has Strong Performance in Fall 2019

The Communication Studies Department is proud to commend the students of the Cal Poly Debate Team for their work during the Fall 2019 quarter.

In our English Division, Team Captain Isabel Barbee ranked in the Top 10 Speakers at the Social Justice Debates Eastern Region Championship at George Washington University.

In our Spanish Division, debaters Austin Grassbaugh and Nicholas Blonstein won the Equinos Chatos Debates hosted by Hancock College.

Relatedly, a debate team and Cal Poly Communication Studies Department Alumna Euni Kim (now reading for her Ph.D. at Utah) was presented with the James L. Golden Outstanding Student Essay in Rhetoric Award at the 2019 National Communication Association Conference. 

In addition, the Cal Poly Debate Team also hosted a series of on-campus debates throughout the fall quarter including both English and Spanish language discussions.
