Coms Students Present at Cal Poly Research Competition

The Communication Studies Department is enormously proud of our students who presented their original research this past quarter at the Winter 2022 Cal Poly Student Research Competition on Friday, March 4.

The following COMS students and alumni presented original research projects:

  • Caitlin Willard (COMS) - Behind Closed Doors: Exploring the Possible Effects of Gossiping
  • Chelsie Lui (COMS Alum) & Beatriz Valente (PSYCH Alum) - Cultivating Problematic Stereotypes of Asian Americans: Representations of Helicopter Parenting in Fresh off the Boat
  • Mackenzie Demay (COMS) - History of Hatred: A Media Analysis and Social Examination of the Film The Hate U Give
  • Matia Mathes (COMS Alum) - Comparing the Effectiveness of Visuals in Medical Education Instruction

The CSU Student Research Competition is held each year to promote excellence in undergraduate and graduate scholarly research and creative activity by recognizing outstanding student accomplishments across the 23 CSU campuses. The competition is open to all disciplines and to current undergraduate and graduate students and alums.

Congratulations to our students who participated and shared their scholarly work with the wider campus community!
