Maria Subert earned an M.A. in Philosophy at Eotvos Lorant University, Budapest, Hungary. She continued her studies at the Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.
After relocating to the United States, she received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Communication Studies, specializing in Rhetoric and Public Culture (related area: Media), in the Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio. She finished her post-graduate studies at the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Geneva, Switzerland in 2020.
She has presented at U.S. and international conferences and published book chapters and multiple articles about U.S. Covid-19 crisis communication, culturally determined communication strategies including Roma / Gypsy narratives and African American rhetoric, visual narratives and visual colonization, social justice, peace and conflict, help rhetoric, and communications and ethnic politics.
She has produced documentary films around the world. Her documentary, “Who Carried the Sun” was the official selection of the 101th Annual Convention of the National Communication Association, Las Vegas, NV. She is excited to join the Communication faculty at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA.
